Is code_mate_ really free?
The core is free and open source (MIT): the curated glossary, all four explanation depths and the right-click trigger, with no account and no setup. An optional Pro tier at $3.50/mo (or $35/yr) adds a bring-your-own-key AI fallback for terms outside the glossary, hover trigger, keyboard shortcut, glossary packs and custom terms.
Does code_mate_ send my browsing anywhere?
No. The free glossary is bundled with the extension and looked up locally in your browser, so lookups involve no network call at all. There is no backend, no account and no telemetry. If you enable the optional Pro AI fallback, your query goes straight from your browser to your own AI provider with your own key; no code_mate_ server sits in between.
